Bant, January 13, 2025 - The renovation of Agrico Research has started. Today the demolition of the various laboratories of the breeding company in Bant (FL) started. Construction is expected to be completed around the summer of 2026.
Agrico Research is working daily to improve the variety portfolio of Agrico. To aid the development of better varieties and to continue to add new varieties to the existing strong portfolio, an extensive renovation of the breeding company is very welcome.
The existing laboratory is outdated and too small. Among other things, the molecular laboratory will be renovated and the quarantine laboratory will expand considerably in capacity. Agrico wants to make better use of modern techniques, allowing Agrico Research to become more efficient in breeding work and to combine the right characteristics for healthy potato cultivation faster. The new building will enable Agrico to maintain their leading position in developing excellent potato varieties.
“Thanks to the extra space, we will soon be able to do more marker research”, explains Agrico Research director Peter Oldenkamp. “We can also take more targeted steps to add traits to seedlings, such as disease resistance and quality traits.” Among other things, this means that Agrico will be able to come to market faster with new varieties with, for example, stacked resistance to the fungal disease late blight.
The renovation of Agrico Research involves an amount of around 15 million euros, the largest investment in Agrico's history.
