As a bioinformatics scientist you combine biological insights, genetic data and statistics to analyse and interpret important agronomic traits in our breeding material. You design experiments in consultation with your colleagues from the biotech team. You will make the information obtained suitable for use in practical breeding. In terms of techniques, you can think of genetic predictions (genomic selection) and marker assisted breeding via GWAS and QTL mapping.
As a bioinformatics scientist you work within our research department, which consists of eight colleagues. The work is carried out in close consultation with colleagues from both the research and breeding teams.
To carry out your work successfully, you bring a mix of analytical, social and data handling skills. You are precise in your work, and you make the right connections to arrive at (innovative) solutions. You know how to present your conclusions both orally and in writing.
For this position you hold a PhD or MSc degree or possess equivalent experience and knowledge of genomics and bioinformatics. You are skilled with statistical software such as R or Phyton and understand concepts of various genotyping techniques. An affinity with plant breeding would be very useful but is not essential. You are curious and like to keep up to date with the latest developments in this rapidly developing field.
We request a good command of English and willingness to learn Dutch. You must be an EU-resident. If you apply for the vacancy, please describe your social options to move permanently to area where our research facilities are located.
This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week. If you join us as a bioinformatician, you can count on competitive primary and secondary employment conditions. We work in a commercial environment and your efforts will contribute to tangible results in the form of better potato varieties that enable our international customers to grow potatoes in a profitable and sustainable manner.
